Start with a Budget.

When planning a kitchen renovation, the first step should always be to create a budget. Your budget will help you determine what type of renovation you can afford, as well as what materials and features you would like to include in your new kitchen.

Start compiling your budget by shopping online for kitchen inspiration.  Once you know the look you want, you can move on to the home improvement retailer websites to shop for the best prices on those items.

It's important to be realistic when creating your budget, so be sure to take into account all of the associated costs, such as labour, materials and permits. If you're not sure where to start, we’d love to give you a budget estimate that can help you get started.

Choose a Color Scheme.

Once you've determined how much you can spend on your renovation, you know the layout, changes to the floor plan, and the features you want, it’s time to talk color. Should you choose a color scheme that works with your existing décor? Or make your kitchen stand out in a different style?

Bold colors brings a kitchen to life. While a neutral palette will allow you to add pops of color later on.

It’s important to choose a high quality paint for your kitchen renovation. High quality paints are easier to work with, cover nicely, are durable and look better for longer.

Decide Whether to Update Your Kitchen Appliances.

Do you need an oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, or other appliance? Simple updates like adding new appliances in a flasy new color can change the look and feel of your entire kitchen experience. Simple appliance updates are a lot less expensive than reconfiguring your floor plan too.

So, if your kitchen appliances are starting to show signs of wear and tear, then it is probably time for an upgrade.

Add a Feature Wall With Repurposed Materials.

Adding a feature wall is another fast and inexpensive way to update your kitchen without spedning a ton of money.

And there's no reason why you should have to pay big bucks for new materials when there are so many ways to repurpose old items.

Search for old barn board, wooden siding, used shiplap or leftover trim boards. These exterior items look great when used inside your home. Stack them up horizontally, like you would when siding a house —or vertically, to create an interesting, eye-catching feature wall.
